September Picture Capture! Flash Fiction with heat… #PictureCapture

by on September 30, 2014

Capturing the moment is every author’s goal. We want to express emotions so clearly that the reader’s impacted when they put the book down. So I’ve brought you a collection of authors who are all using the exact same photograph as inspiration for a short scene. They are capturing the picture with their words. These short scenes are NOT part of a book…yet, but they will give you great insight into the authors head!

As always you’re welcome to give it a go and post your story scene in the comments, in fact, I encourage you to try it! Here’s how to do it…2014 - 9 September

Use the photo prompt to write a 350 word scene.

No limitations. No restrictions.

Let your imagination go wild.

Alongside every entry, is the authors contact links, and most recent book cover.

If you like what they did, please leave a comment or even better, buy a book!

So, here is what the authors came up with this month….

Trying to focus on reading the map was difficult with Kayla sitting so close. Her scent filled his nose making his cock ache, and every time her arm brushed his he wanted to jump out of his skin. But as much as he wanted her; fear kept him from opening his mouth. She was his best friend. His only link to the past that he kept close. What if she didn’t feel the same?

“I think if we take the trail through the ravine we’ll make it to the peak by tomorrow afternoon. That will let me get some great photos in the woods as well as some at the top. Then we can take the cliff trail back and stop by the river for a few shots there.” Kala spoke as she ran her fingertip over the crinkling paper, indicating the places she wanted to go. Mark’s eyes followed the pale pink tip of her finger wondering what it would feel like to have her stroke it over his body so gently. “Mark? Is that alright?”

The question startled him, and he jumped, and met her questioning gaze. “Yeah, that’s fine. Whatever you think. You’re the photographer.”

She smiled at him and giggled, “I’m getting smarter in my old age though. I’ve learned to trust my models to give me their opinions.”

“Well my opinion, is that we do whatever you want to do. I’ll just stand there and look pretty.” He teased back. She pushed him with her shoulder.

“That’s right, I forgot. You’ve got the easy job.”

Laughing, he wrapped an arm around her, and pulled her close, trying to ignore the jump in his heart rate and the thickening behind his zipper. “I didn’t see you carrying the tent on your back uphill for the last five miles.”

“And you won’t see me carrying it for the next ten either.” She said with a snort as she elbowed him lightly, and they began to tussle playfully. As they laughed and wrestled she ended up underneath him, her beautiful brown hair loosened from her ponytail and her smile turning her full lips up at the corners. In an instant the mood shifted, and the air crackled with sexual awareness around them.

She could feel the sweat pouring down her forehead as she looked up at the hot sun, she felt a relieving breeze flow through her sweat soaked hair, cooling her off almost instantly. She looked to her side and smiled, remembering why she was doing this.  Her husband had been away on deployment for six months now and he had just barely come home, so they were hiking up to a hidden hot spring for the weekend, so neither of them would have cell phone reception so they wouldn’t be bothered, at all.  She had been looking forward to this since the day she read his last letter.

Last time he came home on deployment they both were receiving phone calls as if they were the last people left on earth for people to bother, and they barely got any time alone, either people needed her and Kurt to go help them, or they wanted to come over, this time was definitely going to be different. Kurt set his bag down and pulled out a map to make sure they were going in the right direction.

After checking all the landmarks they had passed and looking at the compass to make sure that they were going the right way he passed her a bottle of water. She smiled warmly then took a big gulp of the water.  “Let’s go.”  She said as she stood.  She walked up to him and kissed his lips briskly, she missed the way she felt when she kissed him.  She started jogging, knowing that they were only a mile away now, after a long ten mile hike, just seemed to drive her to go faster.

She couldn’t wait to be alone with her husband, completely alone, where no one could disturb them. When they got there, the distance they had come was all worth it and the journey itself was a wonderful experience with her and Kurt.  She stripped her clothes off and tested the water, before she dove right in.  Kurt followed right behind her.

Watching as Blake stared at the map in front of him, hoping to find a path home. Darkness was drawing near. Linda secretly hoped that they would be forced to spend the night. She watched closely as his muscles flexed slightly with every move he made. Her heart began to race as heated images filled her mind, fantasy’s overwhelming her imagination.

“I’m unsure which path is the best to take in order to get home safely.” He said, interrupting Linda’s intimate thoughts.

“Oh, well it’s close to sunset, should we camp here tonight? Maybe plan the best path home together?” she asked, her heart almost stopped beating as she desperately waited for his reply.

“I think you are right. It’s best we take our time, I’d hate to send us in the wrong direction.”

Linda glared at Blake; shock took over her ability to react. Tears of joy began to form as she attempted to gather herself. Blake proceeded to light the camp fire. Linda couldn’t wait any longer to make her move. She made her way inside the tent, closing the zipper behind her. She made her way to her suitcase, grabbing out her sexiest lingerie. Placing the silky garment over her head as she struggled to place the tight material over her body. She checked her hair and makeup before making her way outside. She posed the best she could beside the tent, presenting herself to Blake. Praying he would respond by ripping her clothing straight off her body.

“Blake” She said in a seductive voice.

“Hmm?” he replied, enchanted with the burning fire before him.

“Blake, I have a gift for you.” She announced.

Blake’s eyes widened at the sight before him, he stood instantly. Taking one step at a time, he slowly unbuttoned his top as he made his way towards Linda. Her smile widened at his response, her eyes darting towards his crotch noticing the large figure forming in his pants. Once Blake was close enough she launched towards him, jumping into his arms. He held her tightly against his body.

Lindsey was pissed. She came on this camping trip with her daughter, a good mother/daughter bonding trip right? But the moment she arrived she was met with nothing but resistance from the camp leader, Derrick Mayfield. He had always been able to push her buttons.

She went to school with him and he was always bothering her. When she was a junior in high school things changed. Derrick was busy playing football and dating the cheerleaders. Casey started dating Tom Walsh, the jerk she would later marry and divorce within a year of marriage.

It had been over five years since she had seen Derrick. He returned from college with a debutante he met. They had two little girls. Then his wife up and left him. He got his divorce decree a few months ago.

Derrick made an announcement. “Okay girls, time to go out and find firewood. Leaders Marsha and Dan will go with you. I’ll stay here with Mrs. Walsh and set up the rest of the tents.”

What the hell? She didn’t want to be alone with this guy. She tried to hide her expression as she looked down at her beaming daughter. “Be careful and listen to the camp leaders.”

“Okay Mom. See ya later.” Her daughter bounced off with the rest of the camp leaving Lindsey alone with him. Ignoring him, she went to grab one of the tents not yet put together.

“Lindsey, I think we need to talk.” Derrick said from right behind her.

“Can you grab the instructions over there and help me with this tent?” She didn’t want to talk.

He grabbed the instructions and knelt down beside her. “These are ridiculous instructions. Who the hell can read this shit?”

She grabbed the instructions from him. He tried to grab them back. She shoved his shoulder and he shocked her by pulling her into his arms.

“What are you doing?” Her heart was racing and her breathing was erratic.

“Something I should have done years ago.” He leaned down and kissed her.

Oh God yes.

Cory pointed at the map but the last thing he cared about was the blue spot beside her finger. A fine wisp of hair pulled free from her ponytail and teased the skin below his ear. The scent of honeysuckle filled him until all he could think about sampling a kiss to see if she tasted as sweet as she smelled.

“Hello? Mike? Are you there?” Her amused voice broke through the fog.

“Yeah, I’m here. So what’s the plan?” Another breeze blew through, this one harder than the last.

“I think we should follow the right fork on the trail down to the lake.” Low thunder rumbled in the distance while he squashed the urge to confess he’d follow her to the ends of the earth. But he couldn’t. On a search as important as this one, there was no room for emotion or lust. Certainly, not both.

“Why do you think we should try that path?” He focused on the reason they’d come to Poppy Mountain.

“I think everyone’s over thinking this. These are scared teenagers who don’t have a lot of experience in the outdoors. I think we need to look at the easier routes.”

Another gust of wind grabbed at the corners of the map and pulled. The air filled with dampness and thunder rumbled louder.

He hated the worry he heard in her voice. Cory might be tough as nails on the outside, but on the inside, she had the softest heart he’d ever known.

“You know this mountain better than anyone. If that’s where your gut’s pulling you, that’s where we’ll go. You want to pack up and keep moving, don’t you?” He saw the fight in her blue eyes. Worry for the lost teens and the need to find them battled with the knowledge that they had to stop for the night.

“It’s beautiful, but this mountain’s deadly. It’ll be dark soon.”

“Storm’s coming. Get inside.” Forget waiting. She needed his touch now. If taking her here and now would banish the demons in her eyes, he’d break every rule in the book.

Sherry crawled out of the tent quietly and stretched her arms above her head. The sun was just below the peaks to the east as she straightened her back prior to reaching inside the tent flap for her backpack. She pulled a breakfast bar out and ate it while watching the sunrise. The air was crystal clear, if a tad chilly, at this altitude and the sounds of the natural world coming awake brought a smile to her face.

The sky lightened to purple, then pink, then burst into a bright yellow blaze as the sun crested the mountains. Closing her eyes she soaked in the warmth, thankful for another day. Only two more days left on this trip, then it was back to “real life” and all that entailed. Treatments would start next week and she hoped and prayed she would be strong enough.

“Mornin’ my love.” Sherry jerked slightly as his deep husky voice sounded next to her ear and his hand touched her cheek. Turning her head, she looked into his deep brown eyes and smiled.

“Morning sleepy head. You need to get up and get moving, we’re burning daylight!” She tried to laugh, but his lips captured hers in a tender, loving kiss. His lips had always been a weakness of hers, being both soft and velvety but hard and demanding at times.

James groaned and moved his head back. Even being freshly awakened, he was sexy as hell to her. He was her world, and she had to keep tamping down her fears.

“We need to decide which trail to take back down the mountain, so grab me a bar, a bottle of water and the map. If we get half-way down today, I’ll cook dinner tonight.”

Sherry handed him breakfast and spread the map out while he ate. After debating the best route down, they packed up camp and started out.

Sherry hoped his treatments went well. She couldn’t live alone if he died of breast cancer…

Brett unfolded the map. “Just to the west of the creek is the claim I want to buy.”

Dianna smiled. She was learning that when Brett was interested in something, there was no containing his excitement. It was charming actually, and was the opposite of the meek IT guy he was at work. She had seen him every morning for the past six months. At first he would just look at her and blush. Slowly she got him out of his shell. They had become friends and recently he had revealed to her his dream of buying his family’s former land claim.

When he had mentioned that he camped out here on the week-ends — just him, the stars and his big dreams — she knew that this would be her opportunity to finally spend some time alone with him. He had been surprised when she had asked to come along with him today, but had agreed and picked her up just after dawn.

They had driven the few hours up to this area and set up their tents. Although he loved the land, he was content to view it from afar.

Just looking wasn’t enough for Dianna. She wanted more.

“Where you’d like to build a house?” Dianna leaned forward, her hand bumping against his as she helped smooth down the map.

“Right here, there’s a big tree that throws perfect shade.”

“Here?” Dianna reached out and touched the map. This time her hand lingered against his. She was rewarded by his sharp intake of breath.

He turned and looked her straight in the eye. Usually he looked away from her, but not this time.

“What do you think Dianna? I’ve saved up enough now for the down payment.”

“It’s beautiful. I would love to live here…if you’d have me.” She swallowed his shock by pressing her lips against his.

Brett hesitated just a second before leaning into the kiss and closing his eyes. Soon he was pulling her closer and gently massaging her tongue with his own. Mousy IT guy no more, his hidden alpha was finally released.

“Come on David, you have been looking at that map for over an hour.”

“I know what I’m doing Becky, damn it I know how to read a map,” He grumbled.

Sure he does I thought. We had at least set up base camp. Why did I decide to come with him anyway? Oh yeah, It was supposed to be a bonding weekend to rekindle the flame.

It was not working; neither of us had been trying for months now. We were more friends than lovers and I think we both new that.

I glanced at my watch and guessed we had another two hours before sunset, standing up I stretched.

David did not even glance up from the map.

“I think I will go for a walk and explore the area for a little bit, while there is still light. I won’t go far, and I have my mobile.”

“Sure,” he muttered.

Not even a good bye or be careful. I sighed.

I know he cared, but things had become so strained that, well I was starting to think this whole trip was a bad idea.

If we even made it through the night without falling out, I would call it lucky.

I began to wonder aimlessly, always keeping the camps location in the back of my mind.

The sound of rushing water lured me and I ended up next to the river. Well at least we had a plentiful supply of water.

Disheartened I sat down on the grassy bank, watching the water flow past. It was peaceful here, just the sounds of nature.

That was until I heard the sounds of crying.

“What in the world?”

I rose to my feet and began to look for whatever was making that sound. I swear to God it sounded like a kid.

There were bushes not twenty feet from me and when I parted them, there was a toddler. She was naked and tears tracked her face.

“Oh my God,” I whispered.

She startled and before I could blink a wolf pup was scrambling away from me.

“What,” I gasped.
